Environmental Compliance at Coeur Wharf with Selen-IX

BQE Water Supports Environmental Compliance at Coeur Wharf with New Selen-IX™ Treatment Plant

BQE for Coeur

In the second half of 2024, BQE Water completed the detailed engineering of a new selenium water treatment plant at the Coeur Wharf Mine in South Dakota, USA. Built to support environmental compliance for the mine’s expansion, the plant is designed to treat 150–400 gpm of tailings seepage using BQE’s patented Selen-IX™ technology. The plant is now being commissioned and is scheduled to be fully operational by August 2025.

Before advancing to full-scale design, BQE successfully completed a rapid on-site pilot using its mobile Selen-IX™ unit. The pilot exceeded all performance targets under real operating conditions, providing critical data to reduce implementation risk. The campaign was delivered on time and on budget, in close collaboration with Coeur’s operations team.

The new facility will be the fifth full-scale Selen-IX™ plant commissioned globally and reinforces BQE’s commitment to delivering reliable, non-biological selenium treatment solutions. Its fast, on-spec performance, even in cold temperatures and fluctuating flows, positions it as a proven choice for mines seeking compliance with evolving environmental regulations.
