Reporting to the Manager, Pilot and Laboratory Services, the Lab Process Engineer will:
- Carry out laboratory and pilot testing programs, which include:
- Prepare test plans and execute/deliver on the plans.
- Assist Lab Technologist in setting-up experimental apparatuses and perform bench scale testing of different treatment processes.
- Data analysis and result interpretation
- Write, review and edit technical documents including lab reports, design reports and technical papers.
- Perform technical assessments including scoping level design and cost estimates of water treatment processes to identify fatal flaws, advantages and disadvantages, and areas of best and worst application. Optimize existing technologies for contaminant removal and resource recovery.
- Process engineering support including mass and energy balances, equipment sizing and specifications, PFDs, P&IDs, GAs, instrument lists, etc.
- Technical support of the operations group and gain experience with hands-on experience at full-scale plants.
Qualifications
- Safety conscious, proactively identify risks, participate in safety audits and inspections, observe and execute safety practices and rules in the workplace.
- Solid understanding of the fundamental principles of aqueous inorganic chemistry.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical/materials engineering, hydrometallurgy or mineral processing with Master and/or PhD in the field.
- 3+ years experience in applied research and technology development.
- 2-4 years of industrial experience in water treatment, hydrometallurgy, mining or mineral processing.
- Experience with the management and analysis of lab/pilot/engineering/operations data is an asset.
- Strong understanding of/experience with flowsheets and flowsheet development in in water treatment, hydrometallurgy, mining or mineral processing applications.
- Excellent analytical, facilitation and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills outside of your area of responsibility/comfort and help colleagues.
- Able to work as a full-time, permanent employee in Canada.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites around the world.
- Registration or ability to register with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
