Mine Water Treatment Design Engineering

Turning Water Challenges into Working Solutions

Our design engineering services are grounded in deep expertise in water treatment processes and automation, with a clear focus on systems that are built to operate—not just to meet design criteria. We combine rigorous testing, bespoke process design, and agile implementation to deliver solutions that are reliable in the field, easy to operate and maintain, and optimised for total lifecycle cost. The result is practical, high‑performance systems that solve complex water challenges with confidence and long‑term value.

Engineering for Real-World Constraints

Designing a mine water treatment system is not just a technical exercise, it is a long-term commitment that directly affects permitting success, operating costs, and closure liabilities. Water chemistry changes, flow rates fluctuate, and regulatory expectations tighten over time. Solutions that look good on paper often struggle without real operating insight. BQE Water delivers practical engineering solutions that abate even the most challenging pollutants in mining wastewater streams. Through rigorous testing and bespoke design, we fast track delivery and de-risk implementation, ensuring systems are operable, maintainable, and optimised for lifecycle cost.

The BQE Water Advantage: Precision, Agility, Results.

BQE Water designs treatment systems which we operate, maintain, and stand behind for decades. Our engineering teams work closely with operations, ensuring decisions are grounded in real plant performance rather than theory. This approach delivers robust, viable, and cost‑effective systems across the life of the mine. Backed by deep technical expertise and a strong reputation for quality, we deliver with speed and agility, creating solutions tailored to each site and never accepting the status quo.

Trusted at Scale in Mining Operations

We do not design theoretical systems that are handed off after construction. Over the past two decades, BQE Water has engineered, built, and operated water treatment plants at more than 30 mining sites worldwide. For many of these facilities, BQE continues to operate the facilities after 20+ years, providing predictable compliance, cost certainty, and plant optimizations to adapt to changing site conditions.

For example, at the Raglan mine, BQE built the first water treatment plant (WTP) in 2003, using NaHS to remove nickel. Now a trusted partner to the three mine operators, we extended our assistance to four separate facilities on site, and have expanded the capacity of each by implementing novel technologies, first piloted on site by BQE.

Frequently Asked Questions About Design Engineering

Does BQE perform discipline engineering?

Through longstanding partnerships with trusted mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering firms, we enable cost‑effective delivery of BQE‑designed solutions while maintaining strong technical integration.

Is BQE tied to a specific technology vendor?

We always select the best available technology for the application. We remain independent and vendor‑agnostic, allowing us to recommend solutions based solely on performance, suitability, and client needs rather than brand or affiliation.
